Gardening

Lee and I have planted a garden since we were married. The first 3 years I had no clue what I was doing but was glad for the few thing we grew. Over the years as our family has grown from 2 to almost 5 now are garden keeps getting bigger and more diverse. I am learning what tomatoes I like for canning and what isn't worth my time to grow (watermelons even though every year we plant some and every year we don't reap anything). I have also noticed the years that we are blessed with the most are the years that are the busiest (Norah was born in July and #3 is due in mid Sept). This year I know we will need the food with the rising cost of everything so this year we went all out again knowing it will be work and knowing we will be blessed for the work.
This picture is of the majority of the garden. on the bottom is part of my tomatoes (I think 40 plants) and my peppers I planted like 18 I think and 6 jalapenos for salsa)
This part is what Linda calls an early garden on the right in light green is lettuce and radishes
The next row to the left are my onions and then 3 rows of potatoes

On the left are the peas and the big blank brown spot is where the watermelons cucumbers and squash are planted past the buckets are my tomatoes and peppers and eggplant again.

Doesn't it look pretty past my garden in the field and valley this is one of my favorite views.
Ok so seriously I am excited to report to all of my friends how awesome we have done this year. So far we have had a late frost that killed most of the eggplant. I tried to cover them all but must not know what I am doing there. It is all trial and error folks remember I grew up in the city and am learning as I go. No matter how much I complain to Lee about it I really do enjoy this. Especially since I discover mulching. With such a large garden plot it is a must. It keeps the moisture in the ground and the weeds to a minimum. I have actually weeded this year more than ever I usually jsut let them take over and hope for the best. and I am sure that is how it will be come mid July when squating will be unbareable.

Congrats on being such a great gardener! I would love to do that- we just don't have anywhere to do it that our dog wouldn't destroy! What a great way to have fresh food & save money! You rock!
